Kia was founded in South Korea in 1944 as a company which manufactured handmade steel tubing and bicycle parts. By 1951 Kia began producing fully functional bicycles which eventually led to them building motorcycles in 1957, trucks in 1962 and finally; cars in 1974. 1992 saw Kia expand from South Korea into the United States where they formed Kia Motors America and from then it continued to grow throughout America.


Due to the financial crisis in Asia, Kia Declared bankruptcy in 1997 which led to Hyundai outbidding for and taking control of Kia owning 51% of the company. Since then Kia have homed in on the European market offering a number of different models and a more than attractive 7 year warranty.
